Herniated Lumbar Disc
Symptoms
Herniated lumbar disc symptoms can be
numerous depending on where the injury is located. The symptoms
are caused when the nerves are pinched by the ruptured disc.
One of the most common symptoms is constant or intermittent
pain in the lower back. The discomfort can also increase during
movement such as coughing or sneezing. For more serious cases,
even standing still for prolonged periods of time can cause
pain to occur. Spasms or twitching of the back muscles can also
accompany the soreness. Take note that the pain need not be
confined in the lower back regions. It can also be experienced
up to the legs.
Other
than pain, some other herniated lumbar discs symptoms include
numbness in the lumbar areas. Like with pain, the sensation can
also extend to the leg or the foot. There can also be a
reduction in the performance of the muscles in the lower
regions of the body. Those who experience this medical
condition also report decreased reflexes around the knees or
ankles. Finally, there can also be changes in the bladder and
bowel functions in the body. Difficulty in these areas may
indicate a herniated disc.
When
experiencing any of these symptoms, consult with a physician to
accurately diagnose the condition.
